Northeast Community News – August 08, 2016

Dear Friends and Family!
What a wonderful day we had in the Lord, Sunday! One person has been asking us to pray for everyone who is missing and I’m not sure if he was one of those they were thinking of, but it sure was wonderful to see Harry K. back! I always find it interesting that some of you, like Harry, honestly mourn when they can’t be in church, while others seem to mourn when they do come! And there are folks like me who look forward to seeing everyone and mourn when you don’t come! If you weren’t in church this week know you were missed!
God’s message came to us from Matthew 6:5-13 and was titled, ‘Talking with God.” It was the third of ten messages examining the ‘basics’ a new believer needs on their journey of faith after accepting Christ and being born again. It’s a faith journey connecting our new birth with our eventual homecoming when we see Jesus face to face!
One of the key pieces of that journey is to learn to ‘talk with God’ through prayer. While there are many who could teach us to pray, in Matthew 6:5-13 we find the disciples asking Jesus to teach them to pray. While books have been written on what Jesus taught them, our message addressed just four of them. First, we learn prayer shouldn’t be about us!
Jesus declares, “…when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men” (Matthew 6:5).
A hypocrite is an actor who merely ‘plays a role’ and draws attention to him or herself. Jesus says don’t try to draw attention to yourself when you pray nor feel the need to use eloquent words or whip yourself up into an emotional frenzy or shout to impress others! Instead, when you pray be vulnerable, simple in speech, and speak from the heart!
Second, in His model prayer, Jesus declares our prayers should be directed to our hallowed Father in heaven. In Luke’s account, the Greek word ‘Father’ is translated as ‘daddy.’ While the Jews could not draw near God, through Christ’s blood on the cross, adopted children in the Kingdom may now refer to the all-knowing, all powerful God as daddy!
Third, though we do have unfettered access to our Abba daddy, Jesus teaches us when we pray we need to remember that our Heavenly Father is to be ‘hallowed,’ (that is to make holy or show great respect). While we may call God ‘daddy,’ our prayers should revere Him! This explains why Jesus teaches us our prayers ought to seek His Kingdom come; His will done and give thanks for providing our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, too!
Finally, to pray as Jesus taught requires us to acknowledge our own limitations. How the Father must weep to watch His proud stubborn kids struggle and fall (repeatedly) instead of taking His hand. What is prayer? Childlike dependence upon God.
Are you there yet? Do you realize how awesome and loving your ‘Hallowed Papa’ really is? Are you ready to acknowledge your own limitations and take His hand? Maybe it’s time to come to Jesus and humbly ask, "Lord, teach me to pray!" Blessings, Pastor Dan

COME TO THE FIRE 2016
We have received the following from the Michigan District! Please consider it:

We are excited about this year's theme for Come to the Fire: Restore the Joy
Isaiah 35 describes what will happen when God restores His Church. The once barren landscape will suddenly burst with joy!
"Even the wilderness will rejoice in those days. The desert will blossom with flowers. Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers and singing and joy! The deserts will become as green as the mountains of Lebanon, as lovely as Mount Carmel's pastures and the plain of Sharon. There the LORD will display his glory, the splendor of our God" (IS. 35:1, 2 NLT).
We long for the day when God visits His people once again. He will come in response to our prayers, and many of you have been praying. One dear lady said she has been praying and fasting daily since the last conference in 2014. I am grateful for each of you who have continued to pray. At the set time, He will come!
Recently I was reading some of the many amazing testimonies of transformed lives from previous conferences, and quietly said, "Jesus, You did that!" The Spirit whispered, "I can do even more." Our hearts' cry is for restoration to the body of Christ. Will you pray that the council will have guidance in planning an event in which God will send revival?
"Shout, and be glad, O Daughter of Zion. For I am coming," declares the LORD.              (Zechariah 2:10).
Registration will be up soon at cometothefire.org Aletha Hinthorn
