Scripture Reading: Hebrews 1:8–12
8 But about
the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,
and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
9 You
have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
10 He also says,
“In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
11 They
will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
12 You
will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,
and your years will never end.”
Additional Scriptures: Psalm 105:1–11,
37–45
Give thanks
to the Lord, call on his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.
2 Sing
to him, sing praise to him;
tell of all his wonderful acts.
3 Glory
in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord
rejoice.
4 Look
to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.
5 Remember
the wonders he has done,
his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
6 O
descendants of Abraham his servant,
O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
7 He
is the Lord our God;
his judgments are in
all the earth.
8 He
remembers his covenant forever,
the word he commanded, for a thousand generations,
9 the
covenant he made with Abraham,
the oath he swore to Isaac.
10 He
confirmed it to Jacob as a decree,
to Israel as an everlasting covenant:
11 “To
you I will give the land of Canaan
as the portion you
will inherit.”
37 He
brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold,
and from among their tribes no one faltered.
38 Egypt
was glad when they left,
because dread of Israel had fallen on them.
39 He
spread out a cloud as a covering,
and a fire to give light at night.
40 They
asked, and he brought them quail
and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
41 He
opened the rock, and water gushed out;
like a river it
flowed in the desert.
42 For
he remembered his holy promise
given to his servant Abraham.
43 He
brought out his people with rejoicing,
his chosen ones with shouts of joy;
44 he
gave them the lands of the nations,
and they fell heir to what others had toiled for—
45 that
they might keep his precepts
and observe his laws.
Praise the Lord.
Genesis 21:1–7
Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had
said, and the Lord did for Sarah
what he had promised. 2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to
Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. 3 Abraham
gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. 4 When his son Isaac
was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him. 5 Abraham
was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
6 Sarah
said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will
laugh with me.” 7 And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham
that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”
