Northeast Community News! May 30, 2016

Dear Friends and Family!
Yes, it was another wonderful day in the Lord, Sunday! Yours truly was fully in fashion in vibrant purple hair…and we had visitors! Ouch or Amen? Well, it was a truly a joy to know you rose to the challenge and read 155 Missionary Books last church year! As I mentioned to Sherry, ‘we may never know the eternal impact of this accomplishment!’ Why, I wouldn’t be surprised to discover someone read something that will forever shape their lives! Amen! Didn’t read a book this year? Too bad… but the good news is we’ve already ordered next year’s and it won’t be long until you will have another opportunity to read and be changed!
God’s message this week came from Galatians 1:1-12 and was titled “We Are Witnesses.” When you accepted Jesus, you became a first-hand witness to the power of His grace! As a witness, there are times when you’re called to testify. While you may not know it, what you do often speaks louder than your words. Does your life in Christ inspire others to believe?
Paul is After establishing his authority (v. 1) and reminding them it was Jesus who gave himself to die on the cross as a sacrifice for sins and to rescue us from the present evil age, thereby fulfilling God’s will (v.4), Paul gets identifies a problem beginning in v. 6:
“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all” (Gal. 1:6-7a).
What’s the trouble? Paul gets right to the point! Some of the Galatians are deserting the gospel and had begun returning to their earlier pagan practices (See Galatians 4:8-10).
We discover in vv. 1:7b-9 some of the Jewish Christians are unhappy Gentiles have been extended salvation, so they pervert the gospel by adding requirements to coming to faith. These gullible Greeks apparently accept these new requirements as truth and while some embrace the new legalism, others simply return to their pagan past. Paul is incensed with these false teachers and twice declares a curse on them to eternal condemnation.
But, I can’t help wonder why these Galatians were so gullible, weak, and defenseless? Didn’t they know their scriptures? Weren’t they attending regular discipleship classes, worship, and engaged in a healthy prayer life and fasting? Why weren’t they grounded in their faith?
How about you? Our culture is full of false teaching, too! Some encourage worship of nature while others seem to worship the government and many believe all religions are the same. Are you gullible, weak and defenseless or strong?. Stay strong in your faith by reading your Bible, getting discipled during Sunday school and Wed. night, pray and fast regularly, and regularly attending worship! Others are depending on you! Blessings, Pastor Dan

Northeast Community News – May 23, 2016

Northeast Community News – May 23, 2016
Dear Friends and Family!
Yes, it was another wonderful day in the Lord! It was a day full of prayer, studying our bibles, electing next year’s church board and representatives and painting my hair purple!
That’s right! After our wonderful Missionary Gathering led by our Sherry J., our Missionary President, Janie dyed my hair purple during our fellowship time! A great time was had by all! After declining an offer to bleach my hair to help the color, I endured vaseline to the hairline and even a processing cap! Yikes! Seriously, it was wonderful to think 154 books had been read and my prayer is your reading will create a new or deeper love for our God on a mission! God is good! All the time (even with a deep purple/burgundy head of hair)!
God’s message this came from John 16:12-15 and titled, “A Continuing Presence.” Between c. 14-16 in the gospel of John we find a body of Jesus’ teachings about the promised Holy Spirit, but Jesus didn’t teach them everything. In v. 12 we read Jesus saying: “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear” (John 16:12). ‘Bear’ comes from the Greek word bastazo and means ‘carry, endure, accept.’ As Jesus looks into their bewildered eyes, He withholds some of what He knows they need because they can’t comprehend it…yet!
In v. 13 Jesus declares, “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth… “(John 16:13a) Of course, when Jesus is speaking of a future time when the Holy Spirit will come, He’s speaking of Pentecost! Now, the word ‘guide’ is from the Greek word hodegeo and means ‘to lead, to teach in the way to go.’ The truth is, life can be full of hard and hazardous choices! It’s wonderful to realize Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to guide us safely through the jungles and deserts of our lives and teach us everything we need to know!
You see, from leading us through the perils of life and into Divine Encounters like He did with Philip in Acts 8, to the way he calls people into Christian service in Acts 13, to the way He redirects or corrects people going the wrong way like He did with Paul and Timothy in Acts 16, the Holy Spirit still guides, directs and redirects Christians today.
The question isn’t whether the Holy Spirit can still arrange Divine encounters, call people into service, or correct or redirect lives, it’s whether we allow Him freedom to guide, direct, and redirect our lives? After Jesus left the earth, He remained a continuous presence to us through the Holy Spirit. Have you asked Jesus into your life? Are you sensitive to the Spirit? Are there places you are refusing to listen or follow? Try this in the coming week. Set aside as much time to read your Bibles, pray, and then listen to the Holy Spirit in silence each day. It might just surprise you to hear what He is trying to say! Blessings, Pastor Dan

OUR LEAKING FLAT ROOF HAS BEEN REPLACED! PRAISE THE LORD!
Last Wed., 6 men from Dalstra finished the flat roof. Meticulously and methodically beginning Tue. they started ‘tearing off’ 3 layers of roof (some 10,000 pounds of old roofing) and began loading it into a trailer.  Before noon, they had already starting rebuilding the roof by replacing and repairing damaged and rotted decking and soffit and then installing custom cut insulation (to give the roof a significant taper). By Wed. night, they had the project completed with a sealed 60 mil membrane! Praise the Lord! Yet, this wouldn’t have been possible without your faithful giving! Bless you for giving!
