NE NEWS - October 8, 2013

Northeast Community News – October 08, 2013
Dear friends and family,
We had another wonderful day in the Lord, Sunday! We had more visitors this week, which is always great! Each of needs to be in the business of reaching into our culture and inviting people to encounter the love of God!
Speaking of inviting, our church is having a Fall Festival on October 20th and each of us needs to get involved! From inviting people, to placing posters in businesses, to helping to set up, to bringing something to pass at the meal, to volunteering, it is going to take all of us working together to be a COMMUNITY CHURCH! Can we count on you? Amen!
God’s message to us this week came from 1 John 4:7-16 and was titled, “The Fruit of the Spirit: Love.” This is the first message in a series examining the spiritual fruit Christians manifest when they are filled with the Holy Spirit. Paul wrote, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23).
Unlike most of the flowers, vegetables, and fruits we can purchase, the Fruit of the Spirit can’t be bought, borrowed, or faked! The fruit that comes from the Spirit is received from God and grows in and out of us as we respond in obedience to the Holy Spirit.
The first fruit is love. Love, the way God intended isn’t based on Hollywood or Soap Operas filled with cozy feelings, intrigue, manipulation, and heartache! According to the Scripture, real love is sacrificial, self-emptying love, Christ-like love. Through Jesus, God demonstrated real love when he reached into our sinful world and drew us back to Himself through the incarnation, life, teaching, death, and resurrection of Jesus!
While we live in a culture that looks for shortcuts and an easier way, real love cannot be faked, bought, borrowed, or inherited. Not only is love defined, guided, and given to us by God, but once we have received it we are to love one another the same way! (v. 7a)
How might your relationship with your spouse, your family, your coworkers or your neighbors be different if you loved them the way Jesus demonstrated? Do you love the people around you the way Jesus loves? Do you accept them? Do you want what is best for them? Would you give of yourself for them? Remember, love is more than a feeling!
While loving Jesus’ way is scary because it can be so uncomfortable, love like that could turn our world upside down! Yield your life to Christ and prepare to change the world!

THANK YOU FOR APPRECIATING YOUR PASTORS!
We know you are a church that understands love! While God led me to preach on love this week, you are so good at expressing your love for God and others already. For what you have done for Janie and I, thank you – thank you – thank you! What a generous and thoughtful gift and letters of appreciation we have received! We are blessed to be one of your pastor and spouses here at Northeast Community – the greatest church on earth!

WED. NIGHT PRAYER MEETING AND ADULT BIBLE STUDY AT 6:30PM
We have changed the format in the adult Bible study! While we still examine God’s Word, we are now singing and praying first to give us enough time to pray! Sometimes this means we need two weeks to finish a lesson and that is ok! This week we will continue our study on the fruit of the Spirit by examining Isaiah 43:1-7 and peace!

Healthy Living! It is a way of life as Holiness People!
Paul wrote, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own; you were bought at a price.  Therefore honor God with your body” (I Corinthians 6:19-20).
Over the last few weeks we have discussed healthy ways of living. We have examined how to create margin, the need for water and the quality and quantity of the foods we eat, for example. Now I am running out of things to talk about! (hard to believe, right!) So, I am going to include a Kale Chip recipe as an alternative to potato chips! Janie and I tried these and liked them. If I were to do them again I might add garlic to the oil! Enjoy!
Remember, if you would like to include an article or recipe about health, please let me know! If not, I might just have to talk about cardio, flexibility, and core strength! J Blessings! Pastor Dan

Fall Festival Outreach Event – Sunday October 20th
Are you prepared to step out of your comfort zone, into your community, and love people who need to know the love of Jesus? Are you willing to rejoice like the angels in heaven (Luke 15:10), to celebrate, to even throw a party for these people? I hope so, because the Stewards are currently planning an outdoor Fall Festival in order to reach out to our community! The plan is to invite the community onto our grounds for a time of food, fellowship, games, prizes, pumpkins, music, and more!
So what part of the Fall Festival is God asking you to take on? Could you canvas the neighborhood, knock on doors and hand out fliers? Could you donate nice items to use for prizes in a raffle? Can you help plan food? Will you take on the role of greeting and welcoming everyone who comes? Can you pray for this event? Could you help make posters to hang in local businesses? We need your creativity and we need all hands in action! Talk to Irene Pratt!

TUESDAY MORNING PRAYER MEETINGS 9AM-10AM
Come pray with us on Tuesday mornings! Everyone is invited to join us for an hour of prayer. We all know many who need Jesus, and many who have other needs. We believe that prayer really does change things, and God really does love the world – especially those who don’t know Jesus yet! Who could you be praying for? It is a midweek blessing and encouragement to join with other believers in prayer! See you Tuesday!
