Northeast Community News – August 15, 2016

Dear Friends and Family!
We had another wonderful day in the Lord, Sunday! Steve was back leading our music along with Sherry and they were anointed! Sadly, Larry B. wasn’t with us after he had ‘done too much’ at the church work day the day before. We were blessed with 5 dedicated folks, which gave us approximately 2.25 donuts each, but we could have used about 10 more. (stepping up on his soapbox) I know we all have things to do, but when our 80-year-old trustee feels it necessary to push himself beyond his physical limitations and gets hurt, something’s got to change! (stepping back down). Will you be part of the change? I hope so!
After our worship service we had a yummy potluck! Seriously, you find Jeffrey R. drooling over the food you know it’s got to be good (and it was). We had enough wonderful food for another 25 people! Mark your calendar for Oct. 09 and come to the next one!
God’s message came to us from 2 Timothy 3:10-17 and was titled, “Our Roadmap for Life!” Much like a lifeguard, the Bible provides everything we need to keep us healthy and out of danger. In 6 weeks, I’ll be riding my bicycle down the length of Route 66. Can you imagine how catastrophic my trip might be (especially through the desert) if I winged it instead of buying and using maps? And yet, some have decided to ‘wing it’ when it comes to their walk with the Lord! Paul declares in 2 Timothy 3:16-17:
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
From this verse we discover God’s Word comes directly from the Divine lungs of God. The same breath that brought life into man in Genesis 2:7 can teach us God’s unchanging truth (unlike 2 Tim. 4:3-4). God’s Living Word can also rebuke us (expose errors), correct us (restore misguided and disobedient believers), and train us in righteousness (that is moral training leading to righteous living). Finally, we discover God’s Word thoroughly equips us for serving (which is a lot more than head knowledge!)
The psalmist writes:
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Ps. 119:9-11).
You see, if you’re not spending time in the Word; if you aren’t consuming, reading, and hiding God’s Word in your heart, it should be no surprise you struggle with a life a holiness! The world is filled with many ways to be defeated! Stop winging it! Read God’s roadmap! Turn off the TV; stop playing hours of Candy Crush and let the Living Word speak to you!
Blessings, Pastor Dan

COME TO THE FIRE 2016
We have received the following from the Michigan District! Please consider it:
We are excited about this year's theme for Come to the Fire: Restore the Joy
Isaiah 35 describes what will happen when God restores His Church. The once barren landscape will suddenly burst with joy! We long for the day when God visits His people once again. He’ll come in response to our prayers, and many of you have been praying. One dear lady said she has been praying and fasting daily since the last conference! I am grateful for each of you who have continued to pray. At the set time, He will come!
Recently I was reading some of the many amazing testimonies of transformed lives from previous conferences, and quietly said, "Jesus, You did that!" The Spirit whispered, "I can do even more." Our hearts' cry is for restoration to the body of Christ. Will you pray that the council will have guidance in planning an event in which God will send revival?"Shout, and be glad, O Daughter of Zion. For I am coming," declares the LORD.              (Zechariah 2:10).
Registration will be up soon at cometothefire.org Aletha Hinthorn
